Rugby and Cortona

We spent the afternoon and evening in Cortona after starting the day with most of the girls going to the Arezzo market and most of the boys going to a bar in the Arezzo countryside to watch the All Blacks/Lions test.

Then to Cortona for the rest of the day. Cortona is a hillside town with medieval architecture and steep narrow streets situated about 600 metres high with great views of the neighbouring country side and Lake Trasimeno. Cortona was where the 1996 book, and 2003 movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun” were set.

We stopped in the main square many times during the day to have cool drinks. It was another very hot day.

As in most Italian towns there are a number of splendid churches in Cortona.
In St Francesco there are relics of St. Francis of Assisi, including a tunic.

We had dinner in a restaurant just off the square.
