Malta

We landed in Malta at about midnight Thursday NZ time.

We flew out of Wellington at 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday, via Melbourne, Dubai and Cyprus (not Tunisia as we were originally scheduled to do). First event of Matthew's trip came as soon as he left Martinborough:

Flights were uneventful and all on time. Had great views of the Suez Canal as we headed north to the Mediterranean and then a brief stop at Cyprus.
Then onto Malta, flying over Crete which brought back memories of a week we spent there in 2010. Then finally, 31 hours after leaving Wellington we landed in Malta.

Our suitcases were very slow to make an appearance but the taxi trip to our 3 bedroom hotel in the heart of Valletta was very fast!.

The building is 500 years old. These are the views from our 3rd floor windows:

After a nap we went for a walk round the neighbourhood which included many points that look out over the harbour

and the we went to a nearby restaurant for dinner which included Malese specialities including rabbit and tuna and a local wine.
