Ortygia, Syracuse, Sicily, Italy

After lunch we flew from Malta to Catania on the east coast of Sicily, picked up our rental car and drove south to Ortygia. It's a small island which is the historical centre of the city of Syracuse. The island, also known as Città Vecchia (Old City), contains many historical landmarks.

Our hotel room is beautiful and has a great view of the marina. We've only been here for a few hours but we've already seen some wonderful buildings and the magical Piazza Duomo. Matthew's dipped his toes in the Mediterranean, we've seen one of the Sea Shepherds on our walk along the marina, we've had bellinis and seen the sun set.

Dinner at a nearby restaurant was superb.
